Invertapro is the foremost insect rearing and breeding company based in Norway, focusing on end-to-end processes around yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) production. Founded in 2016, our main goal is to build towards a circular economy by utilising insects to efficiently process and upcycle locally available organic waste (industrial, catering and household) sourced from waste management companies into protein rich feed and food ingredients. By-products are used to produce a fertilizer approved for organic farming.

What we do
Food
Eating habits are changing. Our mealworms are a delicious and nutritious food ingredient – and the perfect snack for any occasion.
Feed & Pet food
Our mealworms provide the nutrients to keep animals healthy, and help food industries become more sustainable.
Organic fertilizer
Our organic fertilizer, based on frass from larvae, promotes growth and strengthens plant and soil. It is made from local, organic, renewable resources – approved for organic farming.
Research & Development
Our team carries various R&D projects to make the best conditions for our larvae, increase productivity and test and develop our products.

Invertapro and the Sustainable Development Goals
With insects at the core of our business concept, we are actively contributing to several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation
Industralisation and a thriving environment do not have to be mutually exclusive.
By developing our insect production we are innovating existing waste-magenement infrastructures. Directly investing in the sustainable future of nutrient-cycling to create a truly circular economy. This is genuine sustainable innovation.

Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
By using existing foodwaste rather than new resources, production of our insect-based protein side-steps the bulk of conventional input-related emissions.
In addition we circumvent existing energy-intensive processing of foodwaste, cutting emissions even further.

Goal 11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Many cities and municipality manage their waste streams independently, each of which constitutes a rich source of nutrients for our insects.
With our decentralised satellite-based production model, these cities and municipalities can become part of a circular economy in which their waste streams are converted by our insects and reintroduced in their local food market.

Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources
Insect-based protein offers an affordable alternative to fishmeal-based feed used in aquaculture industries. In this way we can reduce the pressure on our oceans and seas.

Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
Through our insects, sustainable consumption and production become at once intertwined and attainable.
As waste-streams become resource-streams, boundaries blur and a truly circular economy is created where valuable nutrients are neither wasted nor lost.

Goal 15: Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, halt biodiversity loss
By using foodwaste to produce insect-based protein, we pre-empt using valuable agricultural land and water.
Reduced need for these resources decreases pressure on forests and fragile ecosystems onto which agricultural land continues to expand. Land currently under cultivation for soy or corn-based animal feed could be reforested, or reallocated to growing food for direct human consumption, ensuring global food security.
